In my view totally deserved the awards it got on independent festivals and I´m really glad this became a series. Some sets look great, the world feels authentic and the whole movie is very well directed, edited, scored and acted. Sometimes we cannot help but marvel at what this production acomplished with so little money. The story is a standart D&D quest done simple but it has plenty of imagination, diversity and it´s a pleasure to follow from begining to end. Oh, and the wardrobe feels real and perfectly roots the characters into the world they are suposed to live in too. Also the visual scope of the movie is bigger than it´s budget would seem to make possible and there´s plenty of epic vistas and great open door scenery which will please all fantasy fans who aren´t expecting a low budget production to be able to compete with an Hollywood blockbuster.Īlso the soundtrack is excelent too. “Mythica – A Quest for Heroes”, despite it´s simple CGI effects, shines in atmosphere the characters are simply fantastic and the actors all do a good job the adventure has humor, personality and a lot of charm. What shines on this small project is the way everything cheap combined to give us a solid fantasy new world. It has more in common with things like “Willow” and “LadyHawke” that it has with the Peter Jackson´s movies, despite the looks of the orcs on this. If you´re a Dungeons & Dragons fan, or you love fantasy in general and you understand the philosophy behind the making of low budget B and Z movies, you cannot go wrong with the Mythica series ( now in pre-production for number 5 ).Īlthough from the trailer this project might look like a Tolkien´s poor man´s rip-off, trust me.
